If your business has a website, there are a variety of marketing and advertising methods you can utilize to generate new business. You can either promote your website offline or online. A common misconception for a traditional “brick-and-mortar” business is that because you don’t sell online then you shouldn’t market online. This is the farthest from the truth!
It is important to market your businesses products and services and get the message out as much as possible. However, we have found that one advertising method seems to deliver the best results – marketing to consumers who are already interested in what you do.
In general, there are two types of marketing: creative advertising and directional advertising.
Creative Advertising – This type of advertising encompasses traditional venues such as radio, TV, billboards, newspapers, magazines, etc. They are generally “offline” or “traditional” methods of advertising. The reason why they are called “creative” is because you are trying to create an interest in your product or service. For example, if a local consumer is reading the newspaper for news, sports or local editorials and then they come across your advertisement, they technically were “not” looking for your company’s products or services at that time and you are hoping that your message will “create” an interest in contacting you.
Directional Advertising – This type of advertising generally encompasses “Online” Internet marketing. The reason why it is called “directional” is because consumers who are in your local area and have already gone to a search engine to find something and type in a keyword or keywords phrase and then get the search results; these consumers have already proved their interest in the products and services you offer. So with directional advertising you can choose to only market to local consumers in your area that have already showed an interest in your products and services by sending them to your company’s website. Of course, this type of marketing results in a much higher quality more direct lead.
With over 75% of adults now going online and 89% of all consumers researching products and services online first before they pick up the phone or make their purchase offline, it is critical that your local business position itself in front of these local consumers who have already proven their interest in the products and services you offer. Otherwise they will be lost to your competitors.
Just remember, 82% of consumers do not go past the first page of the search results. Therefore, if you are not on the first page you are missing out on the majority of consumers who are genuinely interested in your area.
The majority of consumers now use search engines to find what they are looking for and if the consumers who are interested in what you do can’t find you they will end up finding your competitors.
A good search engine marketing campaign that is targeted in your specific local area can solve this problem for you and generate great results because you will only be marketing to those consumers who already have an interest in your products and services.
You can’t get a better lead then that!
